Sarah Linhares' musical journey

Sarah Linhares is a Canadian Madeiran multidisciplinary artist ( singer, songwriter, producer, writer & performer ) based on Madeira Island, Portugal.

Music has always been a major part of her life. She began singing as a child in her church choir, played clarinet and studied piano at the Royal Conservatory of Music. She trained her voice with many private vocal teachers in multiple styles ( jazz, blues, bossa nova, classical ) and sang in multiple gospel choirs in Montreal over many years. She also played Brazilian percussion in an Escola de Samba for years. 

Now, she creates music that is a unique blend of celestial electronic sounds and rhythmic percussion with soulful ephemeral vocals.

Sarah has performed shows all over Canada, Venezuela, and across Europe, including performing at Optimus Alive Festival, opening for Dead Combo at Fica Na Cidade Festival, and a couple appearances at the Montreal International Jazz Festival. 

She has received several artist grants to support the creation and production of her work including being selected as a participant at the International Red Bull Music Academy. 

Sarah has written, composed, and performed on over 17 albums including her own first solo album Messages From The Future, her French band Pacific Shores’ 5 albums, and is the featured voice on Portugal’s DJ Ride ‘ Here Before’ radio hit.

Her influences range from Kimbra, Sevdaliza, Lykke Li, Erykah Badu, Little Dragon, Björk, Ry X, Lana Del Rey, Milton Nascimento, Cesária Évora and Billie Eilish. 

SUBTROPICAL is available on all streaming platforms now and is accompanied by her first book of poetry and photography called Subtropical : Musings on Paradise Found.
